Our charcoal is made from Black Wattle (Acacia Mearnsii) which is a fast-growing, leguminous tree used in the paper making process. Our charcoal is the result of off-cuts produced on a farm in Kareedouw, Eastern Cape.
Great flavour starts with great fuel and an added benefit of using this sustainably sourced, restaurant grade lump wood is the intensity of flavour it gives to the food cooked on it. Our lump charcoal is a renewable fuel and we do not cut forests to produce this all-natural product. It is carefully sourced to ensure it contains no fillers, nitrates, chemicals, treated wood or petroleum products.
Big Green Egg South Africa charcoal is made in South Africa from 100% natural hardwood. It is easy to light and is usually ready for cooking in a few minutes. It burns hotter and more efficiently than charcoal briquettes. Lump charcoal produces less ash, so there is minimal waste and clean up … delivering value in every bag.
